Amusing Ourselves to Death – Neil Postman 18:48 Orwell and Huxley Orwell – author of 1984 Fictionalized dramatization of Big Brother; what would happen in the ultimate model of  tyranny, where people are expressed by some elite form of power Huxley – author of Brave New World Society is controlled by the inside out; everyone is controlled from birth to be born into a  certain class Babies grown in a lab; placed into family units; no pain, everything is orchestrated and  nothing is left to chance Certain subplots are still drawn on Everyone is always entertained and amused; people are self-medicated through drug  called soma Drug puts people into happy place; this has been drawn on by critics of recent  pharmaceutical advances Fear that what we love will ruin us instead of what we hate ruining us (such as some  outside force) We are so happily amused and entertained that we become prisoners of our own
