SPD-560 TOPIC 2 DQ 2 Describe 2-3 listening and speaking activities or strategies teachers could use to help students develop phonemic awareness and develop an understanding about sounds and symbol systems. Why is it important for the teacher to provide opportunities for integrating phonological awareness activities throughout the school day? One activity I would use on my students is the Listening to Sequence Sound where students listen to different sounds such as clapping, banging on the wall/ table/lap, tearing paper, opening windows or drawers. Students will close their eyes and listen carefully. Then they will identify the single sound and then identify each sequence of sounds. The objective of this activity is for student to have the ability to develop the memory and attentional for thinking about sequences of sounds but also the language for discussing them. Another activity I would use on my students is clapping name. I will first model to student clapping out my own name and figuring our how many syllables is in my name. Once I am down
