EECE-315 Prelab 3 In this lab you will be determining the performance of a Zener diode (1N4735) voltage regulator shown in Lab 3. Assume R = 50 . 1. Devise a method to measure V zo and the Zener resistance, r z of a Zener diode. Show schematics for the apparatus in each case. 2. Use a data sheet to determine V zo , r z and I zk . For the Zener regulator shown, calculate the smallest input voltage for which the Zener diode remains in breakdown (I z = I zk ) when the load current is 50 mA. 3. Assume I Load = 50 mA. Calculate the power dissipation in the Zener diode for an input voltage of 15 V. If this exceeds 1 watt, find the largest integer value of input voltage for which it does not do so. 4. For the Zener regulator shown, calculate the largest load current for which the Zener diode remains in breakdown (I z = I zk ) when the input voltage is 15 V. 5. Calculate the power dissipation in the Zener diode for a load current of 0 mA when the voltage is 15 V. If this exceeds 1 watt, find the smallest load current for which it does not do so.
