CHAPTER 6 : SELECTION AND PLACEMENT 5 Selection Method Standards o Reliability Definition: consistency of a performance; the degree to which a performance measure is free from random error Estimating the Reliability of Measurement Correlation coefficient : measure of the degree to which two sets of numbers are related – express strength of the relationship in numerical form Assessing test - retest reliability: how scores on the measure at one time relate to scores on the same measure at another time Standards for Reliability Write clear and unambiguous items Increase length of the test Computers generate highly reliable tests o Validity Definition: The extent to which a performance measure assesses all the relevant – and only relevant – aspects of job performance Criterion-related validity : method of establishing validity of a personnel selection method by showing substantial correlation between test scores and job-performances skills Predictive validation : criterion-related validity study that seeks to establish an empirical relationship between applicants’ tests scores and their eventual performance on the job Concurrent validation: criterion-related study in which a test is administered to all the people currently in a job and
