Shafaat Rahman 2/21/12 SO101 Influences of Subculture Due to Society The United States has been called a gigantic melting pot of many different religions and races. People from all across the world have migrated to the United States in search of a better life for their children. As the years have passed, the United States has become more and more industrialized and advanced. Those immigrants however attempt to retain their individual identity from their land of origin. Going down the chain, here in Montgomery County, although born in America, I still represent my subculture of being from Bangladesh. My parents who migrated from Bangladesh in 1990, found it necessary to go through assimilation . In America, although retaining knowledge of your former home country is a good quality, carrying over ideals and social norms contradict those found in America. In America, their culture is vastly different from those found elsewhere. For example, the social practices of kissing your significant other or showing any other type of affection is heavily frowned upon in
