What is COPD ? Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD) is one of the most common lung diseases. Smokers are prone to developing COPD, although nonsmokers can get it too; if they lack a protein called alpha-1 antitrypsin. There are two main forms of COPD: Chronic bronchitis, which involves a long-term cough with mucus. Emphysema, which involves destruction of the lungs over time.
