Ramicone COM 103 –Speech Fundamentals Commemorative Speech (50 points) _______________________________________________________________ This assignment requires you to write a speech, which pays tribute to a person, group, institution or idea. The subject may be historical or contemporary, famous or obscure. A preparation outline is not required. This speech should be written out and delivered from manuscript. The manuscript must be handed in on the day you give your speech. The speech should be 3-4 minutes long. Points will be deducted if the speech is much shorter or much longer. No outside resources are required.

It focuses particularly on the use of language, and is intended to give you experience speaking from a manuscript. Chapters 11 and 17 will be particularly helpful in writing your speech. Try and experiment using language in an imaginative, colorful, creative way, using devices that enhance clarity and vividness. This speech should be written from the head, as well as the heart.
