Raymond Milek SID#0483682 10/30/2011 SOS-110 Thomas Edison State College October, 2011 Semester Written Assignment 3 In the past few years, social networks have changed the way the world operates. The way we shop, work, attain higher education, and just about anything else that is a part of daily life is somehow attached to social media. According to Erik Qualman, author of the best-selling book “Socialnomics”, social networks, such as Facebook, reach hundreds of millions of users, each day. At the push of a button, the entire world is virtually at your fingertips. As with everything that seems to provide such great convenience, there is both a positive and negative side to the story. As already mentioned, Facebook reaches the masses on a daily basis. One can simply turn on their computer or mobile device, log on to the internet, and social networks such as Facebook, Craig’s List, Twitter, You Tube, and many others are just a “click” away. There are many positive aspects to this social media “invasion”. Craig’s List, to name one, has many listings of services that can be provided, as well as having many new and used goods for sale that can be purchased through secure internet pay services. These sites not only allow businesses to advertise; they can recruit for new potential employees, as well. A reported 80% of businesses use social media for recruitment (Qualman), while an astounding 95% of these businesses use the social media site LinkedIn (Qualman).
