Organizational Behavior MGT-405 Required Text: Organizational Behavior – 5 th Edition McShane and Von Glinow, McGraw Hill, 2010 Course Description Organizational behavior (OB) examines what people think, feel and do in and around organizations. It does this by taking a system approach. The field of organizational behavior borrows many concepts and methods from the behavioral and social sciences, such as psychology, sociology, political science, and anthropology. Some of the current issues that the principles of organizational behavior seek to address include: vision & values, culture, individual and group dynamics, organizational effectiveness & structure, process

The dimensions of organizational behavior are examined with particular emphasis on formal organizations, individuals and group processes. Tools, methods and techniques for managing an OB function will be reviewed. Course Objectives: Each student will: 1. Identify the evolution of behavioral theory in the workplace. 2. Determine the impact of behavior on meeting desired goals and objectives in the business world. 3. Define the processes such as communication, motivation, decision-making, stress, leadership, etc.

Create an original paper analyzing a current organizational behavior situation in his/her organization. 6. Demonstrate basic library research skills. 7. Demonstrate the ability to express ideas orally and in writing. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: Define organizational behavior and understand its role in organizations Identify what it means to value diversity and manage diversity Explain the functions of organizational culture and the challenges of managing across cultures Identify individual differences in personality, attitudes, abilities, and emotions and how these impact the work environment
