I’m going to discuss second half of the worship and daily practices. Temples One of the most important elements to the Sikh worship is the temples. The Golden Temple was the first temple created in Amritsar, Punjab, and it is very important in Sikhism, and often celebrated during certain holidays. The first temple in the US was created in 1912 in Stockton, CA, though temples can be found in every state today. Holidays Some of the major holidays in Sikhism are Diwali (festival of lights) celebrates release of 6th guru and 52 princes in 1619 tradition of lighting the Golden Temple Saki- april 13th or 14th depending on the year, which is for when sikhism was born Gurpurbs ( celebration of the birthdays of gurus and martyrdom’s) Rituals Like many religions, Sikhism has its own rituals and way of conducting ceremonies. The rituals I’ll be covering are music, marriage, and death. Music -Punjabi music is very influential to the new generation, they’ve even created competitions for students across the nation -These are a few examples of Sikh musical instruments used for music during worship and leisure.
