Unformatted text preview: Samuel Castrejon Period 4 March 2, 2011 The Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka, 1915 Major Characters: The characters of this short story are Gregor Samsa, Grete Samsa, Mrs. Samsa, Mr. Samsa, the Lodgers, and the new servant who calls Gregor a beatle. Location: The story is restricted to the Samsa household, more specifically the story takes place in Gregor’s room, the living room, and the dining room. Major Scenes: The story opens up in what is consider the climax of the story in which Gregor wakes up as an insect and he tries to figure out why he transformed (12). Gregor can not go to work and his employer his is not named but is referred to as the Chief Clark comes in and tries to figure out why Gregor is not at work and in the process tries to put down Gregor (16). Gregor comes out of his room to try to not worry his family and employer but actually frightens all his family. His mother faints and his employers run out of the house (23). His sister at first is the only one who can actually withstand his horrible appearance and tries to take care of him while the rest of his family can not even bear to see him, even his mother faints after seeing him twice. (28) Gregor does not want his sister to face the financial burden of the family and wants her to go to the Conservatory to pursue a life in music (35). Gregor’s own dad throws apples at him and no family members want to take out the apple that harmed Gregor (38) . The family brings in lodgers to help pay the rent and a new maid comes in who can bear to be members want to take out the apple that harmed Gregor (38) ....
