1) How did you interpret the problem? I had to first figure out a plan to move mouse, cat, and dog on a raft across a river to the other side. The raft is only able to take one animal at a time on one trip. You cannot take the dog on the raft across the river because that leaves the cat behind with the mouse. If the cat is left behind with the mouse then the cat would eat the mouse. You cannot take the mouse on the raft because that leaves the dog behind with the cat. The dog is left behind with the cat and the dog will eat the cat. I had to come up with a system of transporting the cat, mouse, and dog across the river on the raft without any of them being eaten. 2) What strategy did you use and how did you evaluate your progress? The strategy I used was that a dog-cat or cat-mouse combination should never be left behind on either side of the river. Once I removed the cat-dog and cat-mouse combinations my next step was to move the cat on the raft first. This allowed the dog and mouse combination to safely be left behind with one another.
