Ray Bradbury American science fiction writer Ray Bradbury was born on August 22, 1920 in Waukegan, Illinois, USA. In 1934, at the height of the Great Depression, the Bradbury family moved to Los Angeles. Ray Bradbury became seriously interested in literature at school, he began to write at the age of 12. In 1938, he graduated from high school in Los Angeles, but he never went to college. In 1938-1942, he sold newspapers on the street, until literary creativity began to bring regular income. In 1937, Bradbury joined the Los Angeles Science Fiction League, and in 1938, in one of the league's publications, he published his first story entitled Hollerbochen's Dilemma. In science fiction magazines, his first publication was the story "Pendulum" (1941). For the first collection of short stories "Dark Carnival" (Dark Carnival, 1947) came The Martian Chronicles (1950) - a chain of related stories about pragmatists-earthlings, exploiting and corrupting idyllic Martians. The novel became a science fiction classic and Bradbury's most famous work.
