08 October 2007 Mrs. JoAnn Scales Section 4 Tuesday 1-4 pm MSE 232 Vanderbilt University Nashville, TN 37235 Dear Mrs. Joann Scales, The results of the Fatigue Testing experiment, performed on October 2, 2007, are reported in this letter. The objectives of this lab was to demonstrate the usage of a fatigue testing device and then have the students analyze complete fatigue testing data. There was no procedure because the duration of the experiment could be days. All the group did was show up to class and listen to a brief lecture about fatigue testing and look at a fatigue testing device. The results demonstrate several differences between the steel and Al samples. The steel graph (Graph 5.2) has consistent data points, indicating that steel is uniform. The Al data points are not consistent like the steel (Graph 5.1). This deviation points to the fact that Al has more internal defects than steel. The difference in the data points seems to have been due at least in part to the atomic structure of the metal. The Al
