Brennan Woods Mediterranean Society: The Roman Phase 1.) The Roman Phase consisted of many different concepts of how Rome became the empire like how Egypt did in earlier chapters. The city of Rome arose with the Etruscans influenced the early development of Rome. The Etruscans kings provided the city with paved streets, public buildings, defensive walls, and large temples. In later goes into how the republic expanded due to the new monarchy. Then it became an empire from a republic integration and imperial expansion. They went through a civil war which started up the foundation of an empire. Approaching the end of the chapter it speaks on the economy with trade and urbanization, describing the slavery and ways of life for commoners. The chapter ends with the overview of religion, how Christianity and the life of Jesus evolved in Roman times. The many concepts summed up the foundation of the empire that is Rome. 2.)
