Mona Shen 4B Due October 5 th , 2010 Current Event Title of article: “Drug List Appeal Is Again Rejected” Date of article: September 13 th , 2010 Source: nytimes.com Summary This article centers around campaign financing and how democratic donors are holding back this year. After the Supreme Court ruling of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, allowing corporations to more freely fund political campaigns, there has been an influx of money into the midterm elections. The majority, however, has gone to the Republicans. In the past week, Republican-leaning groups spent seven times more on television ads than did the Democratic ones. Examples of megadonors who are not funding democratic groups this year are George Soros, chairman of Progressive Insurance, and another billionaire Peter B. Lewis. Relation to Government The widespread impact of judicial review is seen through the funding of midterm elections. With the Supreme Court ruling in January with Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission has given the Republicans a new influx of corporate funding. The Democrats, however, have not.
