Richard Nixon’s Report Card Period 1: B- In my opinion, Nixon did well to pull out of the Vietnam War by means of Vietnamization. He did what the people wanted, but that wasn’t necessarily a good thing. His attitude towards the Vietnamese was almost like careless, and when he pulled out he didn’t try very hard to enforce any real protection or try to keep the treaty up. So, the North invaded the South, and South Vietnam fell to communism. Period 2: C- From my readings, I feel like Nixon’s original plan was righteous. He wanted to make the government more personal and for the people, but it ended up horribly as the state governments began to be forced to meet federal conditions. Nixon also began to impound money that Congress needed passed to help some of their businesses. That’s selfish. Period 3: A- I feel like Nixon longed very much for the votes of the South and so even went as far as to promise them several different things. However, he actually did keep his promise with them and did his best to end the segregation between the South and North and funded schools in the South, even though that wasn’t necessarily a good thing.
