Mona Shen 5/10/10 Period 8 Lab Partners: Amy DeOliveira, Rithvi Melanta Projectile Motion Lab Purpose: The purpose of this law is to use laws of motion in two dimensions to hit a target with a metal ball. The motion of a projectile in the horizontal dimension is independent of the motion of the object in the vertical dimension. Data: Trial ∆x (cm) 1 39.8 2 40.1 3 40.0 4 40.2 5 40.3 Average 40.1 Location ∆y Table 81.2 cm Floor 1.59 m Catwalk 5.72 m Analysis of Data: Analysis Questions: 1. Does the x-velocity component change after the marble leaves the ramp? Why? No, the x-velocity component stays constant and does not change after the marble leaves the ramp because there is no acceleration in the x direction. 2. Does the y-velocity component change after the marble leaves the ramp? Why? Yes, the y-velocity component changes after the marble leaves the ramp because the acceleration of gravity pulls on it in the y direction. 3.
