Study Guide for Exam 2: Chapters 7- 11 -This test will consist of 50 questions, a mixture of multiple choice and true/false -Read each chapter, the power points should be used as a guide for interpreting the material. -know key terminology in each chapter -be able to identify examples of terms Here are some main ideas and sections of the chapters that you will need to comprehend for this exam Chapter 7: Grammar -know the different parts of speech -understand how agreement is used in grammar, ex: this use of tense, person, number, and voice -understand the different approaches to grammar. Ex: traditional analysis, prescriptive approach, Chapter 8: Syntax -Understand the key ideas of this chapter. For example, understanding the purpose of generative grammar, recursion, deep and surface structure, structural ambiguity… -be able to identify examples of the terminology -be familiar with Tree Diagrams and its common symbols (pg. 101) Chapter 9:
