Unformatted text preview: Elmali & Melek Elmali Professor Frischkorn EGL 093 “America’s Medical Pot Laws in 2011” Dec. 8, 2011 The article “ A Necessary But Insufficient Step On Marijuana.” published by Kathleen Parker inform us that Obama administration has stopped interfering with states’ use of marijuana in medical fields; however, giving permission to medical marijuana doesn’t mean the drug regulations are loosen on drug traffickers. Arguments about legalization of medical marijuana are increasing every time this topic comes up because some Americans support the idea of decriminalization of marijuana which includes couple of presidents and Supreme Court justice where some people oppose this whole proposal. Ms. Cory is a pro-life Republican mom who endorses legalization of marijuana and points out that it makes no sense to maintain people in prison for using marijuana when alcohol and tobacco have more ill side affects than marijuana and instead of imagining one’s children as criminals making marijuana legal is more reasonable. The legalization of marijuana is one of the major issue in United States that has continued to surface for decades. In my opinion, marijuana should be legalized for only medicinal use for those who suffer from various ailments and punishing those people is totally inhumanity action to obtain. There is no good evidence that prohibition decreases drug use, and there are several theories that suggest prohibition might actually increase drug use.
