Both Unit II Project and Unit II Listening Project **Due March 15** No late work accepted. IMPORTANT: All topics, CDs, concerts and instruments must be approved by your TAs on or before March 8. Unit II Listening Project: Same requirements as last time, different concert/recording, 1-2 pages Unit II Project. TWO Options: Option 1, Research Project Your personal choice of topics related to our studies. (Examples: A critical examination of: gender roles in South African popular music, political music as expression in ______, the cultural role of the glissed monochord in Afro-Brazilian music, et cetera. These are *suggestions* only.) **No** biographies or simple instrument histories. A minimum of 6-7 pages. Citations and bibliography required. Minimum three texts, in addition to class readings, lectures, websites. This is a music class, so be sure to include pertinent musical examples in all essays. Option 2, Creative Project Build an instrument related to the African instruments we have studied in Unit I. May be created individually or in groups of two. The process *must* be photo documented, from procurement of raw materials to finished instrument. (The instrument must be finished, i.e., decorated et cetera.)
