Concert: Tales of the Reed http://www.museumofmakingmusic.org/ Saturday, February 11, 2012 Time: 7:00 PM In conjunction with the "Roots of Reeds" special exhibition, the Museum of Making Music presents Dr. A. J. Racy, Dr. David Borgo, Souhail Kaspar and Rob Thorsen for a special performance on reed instruments from the East Mediterranean region and modern jazz as they share the story of Middle-Eastern reeds. Internationally acclaimed performer, composer, and Professor of Ethnomusicology at the University of California, Los Angeles, A.J. Racy will perform on a variety of East Mediterranean reed and other instruments whose roots go back to antiquity. These instruments include the nay (reed flute), kawala (Egyptian folk flute), mijwiz (single reed, double pipe), and arghul (chanter-and-drone double pipe). Dr.
