1. For the Olestra experiment the control group is who eats regular potato chips and the experimental group is who eat potato chips with Olestra. The variable is the different kind of potato chips. 2. Ursus americanus is the scientific name for the American Black Bear, cenothus anericanus is a type of flower, bufo americanus is an American toad, and lepus americanus is a snowshoe hare. 3. Prokaryotes are normally single-celled. Eukaryotes contain organelles and can reproduce in multiple ways, such as meiosis and mitosis. They are also single-celled and multiple- celled species categorized as plants, fungi, animals, and protists. 4. DNA is the carrier of inherited information and natural selection and is the way that the environment interacts with that with the inherited information. 5. The main researcher was a consultant to Proctor and Gamble during the Olestra experimental. I think that scientific information that comes from tests financed by companies with a vested interest in the outcome sometimes is good and bad.

For the time being the information is still useful. 7. It confirms the usefulness of a scientific approach, because other scientists quickly discovered and exposed to fraud. 8. Observation-Dogs get sores. Question-Why do dogs get sores. Hypothesis-Tap water may cause sores. Prediction-If tap water causes sores then dogs who drink tap water are more likely to get sores than those who don’t. Gather information-Tap water has more calcium then bottled water. Experiment-Give certain water to dogs over a period of time. 9. The modern definition of life differs that a seventeenth century biologist might use because there have been more experiments. 10. Theory differs from the truth because a theory is something that hasn’t been proven....
