On June 18, 2008, JNJ acquired Amic, a developer of “In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Technologies for use in Point-of-Care (POC) and near-patient settings” (PRNewswire, 2008, p.1). The acquisition provides access to high performance technology platforms (PRNewswire, 2008). Thus relevant costs associated with the acquisition of Amic include: The fact that JNJ stands to retrieve +/-$40 million post-tax charge in the second quarter of 2008 from research and development expenses. Once acquired, the research and development program may be discontinued resulting in all R&D expenses being written off (PRNewswire, 2008). Furthermore, acquisition of any company requires huge expenses relative to legal and administrative costs. Thus Amic’s acquisition by JNJ will require the legal
