SEXUAL ASSAULT IN THE ARMY 2 Sexual Assault in the Army Resolving sexual assault issues for the United States Army is a critical role for the Commander and other key leadership. Sexual assault has always been prevalent in the military with the induction of female soldiers into the service. Yet for many years the Army along with other military branches did not have response systems and adequate resources to facilitate awareness and assist soldiers who had been violated. Instead most victims were too afraid to come forward and address the crime suffered by offenders. Sexual assault affects both females and males, hinders the ability to complete missions, reduces employee morale, and is a violation of the Warrior Ethos embodied within the Soldier’s creed as follows: “I will always place the mission first.
