CREW CHIEF/FLIGHT ENGINEER 2 Crew Chief/Flight Engineer in the United States Army In selecting a job for a company that constantly displays a high risk, I selected the crew chief or flight engineer position in Army aviation. This key position has many areas of risk and is definitely a unique position. Unique in that the position requires that the person performing this job has: 1. the mental aptitude and initiative to take orders in the absence of guidance; 2. an uncanny ability to work in some of the most austere environments and climates of the world; and 3. is willing to be in crossfire downrange performing combat missions. The crew chief or flight engineers responsibilities include assisting the pilots in air communication and traffic and maintaining aircraft. Crew chiefs or flight engineers must have a mechanical aptitude and inclination to accomplish aircraft maintenance. The
