THE SOCIAL SYSTEM DIGITAL BOUNDARY 2 The Social System Digital Boundary Digital divide is described as the economic and social status of people in society separated by those who have access to technological social systems versus those who have limited digital resources. Essentially, the digital divide includes the physical access of technical hardware, software and the skills needed to use such systems. I believe that the digital divide is a major problem in our country and as stated by Julius Genachowski, FCC Chair, “if you can’t get online, you can’t compete in the digital economy” ( InformationWeek Government , 2010, p. 1 ). The digital divide is not only a large division in society but is also a tool in determining insufficient digital opportunities in some countries as a result of limited training and education in IT systems.
