MANAGEMENT SKILL SET ASSESSMENT 2 Management Skill Set Assessment My current position as a Flight Operations Specialist is one that involves preparing, organizing and maintaining flight operations and information for both pilots and ground crews. Specific duties include: Ensuring that flight plans are accurate Maintaining and updating flight records Monitoring the status of flights Flight planning Posting weather reports, Notices to Airman, AIRADS (air traffic operations and restrictions) Securing relevant flight equipment and documentation (Powers, n.d.) Essentially, my job is to streamline flight planning operations and ensure pilots have all necessary equipment and documentation for flight. Supervision and management occurs relevant to training new flight operations specialists in proper procedures and risks associated with non-compliance. Furthermore, the transference and security of classified material between flight operations and pilots is a key component in managing flight operations. The Management Skills Assessment was completed first by me then by my NCOIC or direct manager whom I work with daily. This individual works closely with me nearly every day and is familiar with my work habits, style, strengths and weaknesses. My monthly counseling statements have shown that my NCOIC has confidence in my management skills, values my opinion and knowledge concerning flight operations,

MANAGEMENT SKILL SET ASSESSMENT 3 and relies heavily on me to complete both assigned and intended tasks. Sometimes this high level of regard and trust can be overwhelming in that I am not always sure or confident, but I enjoy my job and always do my best to perform to highest standards. Alternatively, I have a general awareness of my challenges. The lower ratings for the financial and budgeting skills are not surprising. My supervisor also selected lower scores rating the skills as moderately to extremely important. Flight operations specialists do not require financial and budgeting expertise nor are they critical aspects to daily responsibilities. Rarely, are we asked to rely upon
