The organization that I selected was L-3 which has been a tremendous partner within the army’s aviation community both in the United States as well as in the combat theaters of both Afghanistan and Iraq. It is very apparent to me as a Senior Military leader that an organizations diagnosis is not only a major requirement but a must especially when the organization is required to adjust to change as much as our army requires L-3. Just imagine the success of the recent surge that General Patreus lead, the civilian as well as the military organization had to quickly diagnosis its capabilities, adjust resources and get the right skill set of employees to meet this critical mission and that is what L-3 brings to the table daily, flexibility to meet a commanders intent daily in the world’s most austere environments and take care of its employees not only financially but as a member of a team that is bigger then them. We will discuss the purpose and the value of conducting a diagnosis on an organization, then we will briefly discuss the different models that were in the hand book by Falletta, and finally we will select what is thought to be the best fit model for L-3 today. So what is organization diagnosis and why is it important to us today? I think as in any organization that must grow with the changes in the world, especially the changes that we face in our country, we must have ways to check to see if we are continually meeting the mark of success. Keep in mind the mark of success is not always in the financial success that companies gain but in the defense industry support field it is in the organizations ability to adjust quickly to a change that is required by the customer with the least transparency as possible to the customer. L-3 has done this tremendously well, for example when we flew more hours on our aircraft and required a higher maintenance poster from the L-3 maintenance teams in both Afghanistan and Iraq, the organization 2

was able to quickly adjust its maintenance teams and provided overwhelming support for our aircraft, thereby enabling the unit to overwhelming do its mission. “Organizational diagnosis, involves “diagnosis” or assessing, an organization’s current level of functioning in order to design appropriate change interventions.”(Falletta, 2005). Just as mentioned above with the surge it was imperative that L-3 and all organization’s involved were able to change quickly to meet the4 mission set required t achieved the success that the surge did. Adjusting resources and timelines is a must when selecting models to assist organization such as our military services. The person or persons doing this evaluation must be willing to accept a lot of
