The United States Military consists of five active duty branches and seven reserve components. The active duty branches include the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Marine Corps, and the Coast Guard. The Army Reserves, Army National Guard, Air Force Reserves, Air National Guard, Navy Reserves, Marine Corps Reserves, and Coast Guard Reserves make up the reserve component branches. In my case that organization I am privileged to be a part of is our United States Army which comprise of over 1.4 million Soldiers and at least 1 million civilians employees that make a difference in every country in our world today. With that being said, the recruitment process for our army has been challenge and criticized, but I want you to ask yourself this as I do every morning of my life the past 24 ½ years I have served. Why don’t all the citizens of the United States serve in our army, instead of the less then 1% of the population that have excepted the challenge to put something bigger then themselves first. The Department of Defense has announced its recruiting statistics by the active and reserve components for the Fiscal year 2007. The recruitment is the process of identifying and attracting potential candidates from within and outside an organization to begin evaluating them for future employment (1). This is done by several thousands of faithful, and dedicated men and women who serve in our military, both civilian and Military service members, and they perform this tough job with little appreciation from their units or their country, but their jobs are vital to our country’s National Security in this unstable world we live in and we are currently at war in. All of the active duty branches met or exceeded their recruiting goals for the fiscal year. On the Reserve side, four of the six reserve componants met or exceeded their recruiting goals.
