In this connection, there has been a significant expansion in the application of geotechnical engineering techniques to the solution of problems in the ground. While the basic principles of these ground improvement techniques remain largely unchanged over the years, the engineering practices have evolved immensely in light of development of new materials, new machinery, new technologies enhancing our ability in modelling and monitoring, and better understanding of soil behaviour.
