Lab report Objective To observe evidence that a chemical reaction has taken place and to infer from observations if new substance has been formed. Introduction For this experiment we observed a sequence of changes that occurred when a solution that began as copper (II) sulfate was treated with a series of different reactants. All the reactions took place in the same test tube. Throughout each step we looked for the evidence of a chemical change showing that a new chemical had been formed. At the end of the lab, we were able to write balanced chemical equations for each step. Variables Independent: reactants Dependent: products/reaction Materials 1. 1.0 M copper(II) sulfate 2. 1.0 M HCl 3. 1.0 M NaOH 4. Aluminum foil 5. Hot-plate 6. Ruler 7. Test tube 8. Stirring rod 9. Pipet 10.Beaker Procedures We began our lab by filling a beaker about half way with water and heated it slowly. Then, we put each of our reagents into plastic pipets and rested them on a paper towel on our desk. Next, we took a small test-tube and rested it in a beaker
