Bible P. 5-24 Sunday, September 04, 2011 9:09 AM The Hebrew Bible The bible depicts God as the maker of heaven and earth, a very powerful, just benevolent being who sees into the hearts of humankind. He is holy, inscrutable, mysterious, tremendously awe-inspiring, but good. Being made in God's image proves that humanity has intrinsic worth. God is jealous that humans know good and evil (ex. Adam and Eve). The message of the third chapter of Genesis is that the knowledge of good and evil is powerful stuff and that once people know the possibility of evil they will be tempted to use it to the destruction of others and, inevitably, themselves. P. 7 Corruption of Humans -> God tries to start a new World -> fails -> God constantl is in the shadows pursuing humanity to repent Good in Humanity: Moses P. 8 Guidelines for living (Ten Commandments) Henotheism - There are many gods, but one is better than the rest, the one to whom we are committed. 5th and 6th Commandment = to defy legitimate authority is to court disaster
