Case study assignment 1 Q1) Whole foods market philosophy is to have high-quality natural food bought by more and more customers which would eventually change the diets of individual and eventually change the planet. (Thompson, Strickland & Gamble, 2010). According to a presentation found on the Whole Foods website their strategy is to make their prices competitive for the market while monitoring quality. To taking advantages of opportunities to push promotions, and to become more known for their value, because their already known for quality. ("Whole foods market," 2010). The acquisition of Wild Oats market was also a chief strategy plan by Whole foods market, because Wild Oats markets was the second behind Whole Foods in natural and organic segment, being its closest and biggest competitor. ("Whole foods market," 2010) Q2) According to the economy and the desire for healthier food in America people and large grocery stores are stocking more organic foods and for better prices than before. (Gray, 2006). This leaves me to conclude that the strategy that Whole Foods is adopting, as of recent ("Whole foods market," 2010) is right on track where they need to be in this booming organic and natural food industry. By acquiring their biggest competitor in 2007 they were truly ahead of the game in this up and coming market, and with growing and expansion of their company they truly have an advantage to the grocers that are trying to catch up with this new wave. (Thompson, Strickland & Gamble, 2010). Q3) I think John Mackey’s vision is perfect from the start. I believe his motto “Whole Foods, Whole people, Whole planet” truly summarizes his vision in short. To bring this vision to the surface and stand strong behind it during the economic times and even before the organic and natural food boom in society was a good strategy to me. His motto is in short the greatest summary of his company. I think it truly filters down into the way their business runs, from store
