Volunteer Income Tax Assistance September 15, 2010 4:42 PM VITA will be looking for volunteers to help prepare taxes for low- and middle-income taxpayers this upcoming Spring. They may also need site coordinators. For a training schedule, please email me: valrie.chambers@tamucc.edu ( Tue, September 21, 2010 10:26:44 AM) You could qualify to prepare tax returns with some simple training that will be available in December on line at www.irs.gov -> Link and Learn. There are several tutorials, and after you take the Basic tutorial and pass the test at the end, you qualify to volunteer for VITA. However, normally you must have volunteered for VITA in the past to be considered for a supervisor position. You want to complete the Basic module, unless you were already certified, in which case you can do an update course. After you pass that test, you can volunteer. That is, the steps are: 1) sign up at the link above to express interest. 2) Train on line 3) pass the online test to become certified 4) sign up for actual volunteer hours at the uwcb website.
