Solution Problem 12-8: 1. When power is available to the system, the green light is on whenever the motor is not running. 2. Pressing start provides power to auxiliary coil “X” and seals in the start switch. Rungs 3 and 4 also receive power which starts both time delay relays TD1 and TD2. 3. After 15 seconds, the first time delay is complete and the NO contact TD1 closes to start the motor. At that time the green light goes off and the red light comes on. 4. After an additional 15 seconds (30 seconds from the pressing of the start button), relay TD2 opens, which shuts off the motor. That turns off the red light and turns on the green light. Solution Problem 12-9: Shown on figure above. Solution Problem 12-10: a. With no power, there are two parallel paths between B and C–through the transformer secondary and through the green light, which has a NC contact for its input. Thus, the resistance would be 10 S in parallel with 200 S or 9.52 S . b.
