MY RACE IN AMERICA 2 My Race in America I am “African American” and strangely enough may be the only race of people who did not come to America to colonize or as immigrates, in fact the people known to be my ancestors were brought from their native land, were sold, and purchase for the purpose of slavery. I have never put that much thought into the situation as a whole it does not sit easy with me. African and other colored races of people have been sailing the seas since about 1513, “from 1500 to 1900 approximately 12 Africans were forced from their homes to go westward, with 10 million of them completing the journey” (Jenny B. Wahl, Carleton College). I would assume once you are forced into slavery for whatever n, was the greatest show of prejudice and racism, which is an understatement considering the amount of people said to be pick up and the amount that made it to the shores of America in chains. Our race would soon learn about the segregation with acts like the separate be equal and white only signs
