BLD 324 WBC Assignment Fall Semester 2011 Describe the RED BLOOD CELLS in addition to using the steps from lecture to describe the WHITE BLOOD CELLS on this 84 year old white woman with heart and kidney failure. Use the reference ranges provided. Patient Values WBC 5.5 RBC 3.37 Hgb 11.1 Hct 35.4 MCV 105 MCH 32.9 MCHC 31.4 RDW 15 Relative reticulocyte count % 2.5 Differential percentages PMNs 63 Bands 1 Lymphocytes 18 Monocytes 13 Eosinophils 3 Basophils 2 Morphology Slight anisocytosis, slight macrocytosis Macrocytic, hypochromic patient with anemia with slight anisocytosis. The relative reticulocyte count is low in this patient so they need a CRC and it will be less than 3% due to the retic count already being under 3%. This means that the patient is not able to correct the anemia. The slight anisocytosis and slight macrocytosis are consistent with the numerical values in the chart. No menation of nucleated red blood cells, so the reported WBC is reliable and will be used for all the following calculations. The WBC count is WRR. Relative diff = PMNs WRR,
