The article mentions companies such as Amazon and Zappos. The problem that the writer is concerned with is that even with the increased amounts of online and email advertising, e-commerce only grew 1% compared to the 20% a year earlier. The problem is not convenience or the recession, but more that there has not been a significant change in online buying over the last ten years. The only exception seems to be Amazon. The writer goes on to describe improvements that can be made in online shopping. First, the checkout process needs to be simplified. Again Amazon has mastered this with one-click purchasing.
