After reading the text and this article, I was still a little confused about SOA. I found the following definitions which helped clear it up for me a bit. SOA unifies business processes by structuring bulky applications as an ad hoc collection of smaller modules called "services". SOA also provides a design framework with a vision of realizing rapid and low-cost system progress and to improving total system-quality.
