Susan Lewis Effects of Religion 2/17/2012 Although religion has had positive effects on society in many ways, there is always the darker side. A very apparent effect of organized religion is religiously motivated terrorism. This is an effect that has been going on for some time now. The September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, and the Pentagon were perpetrated by terrorists with ties to radical Muslim extremist groups. Another effect organized religion has had on society extremist groups or cults. The Waco incidents with the Branch Davidians lead to the death of many men, women and children. Religious mass suicides are something that seems to shadow many cults or sects and affects the lives of innocent people. The Ku Klux Klan is considered a “hate-group.” This group is racist, anti-religious and is the greatest national organization in the world.
