1 Alex Koma 1/14/2011 Brandi Quesenberry Communication Skills 1016 Collapsing a Lung Brian Koma has earned a reputation for being a man that is consistently injured in the most bizarre ways. When he gets hurt, it’s not in the form of something conventional like a broken arm or some bruised ribs. Instead, he has done everything from get a nail embedded in his head to have a bee sting him directly in his eye. Thankfully, he has an excellent sense of humor about all of his many ailments, and loves to tell the stories behind each one of his injuries. One of the more unique incidents that he enjoys recounting is the time when he somehow managed to collapse his lung. Even though it’s hardly a condition you hear about every day, he took the injury in stride, and his story provides a great example of how to deal with adversity. Every day at four in the morning, Brian rolls out of bed in order to go to the pool before he heads to work. This day in November 1997 was no different than any other in this respect, and after swimming one and a half miles, he headed into the office for the day. However, throughout the course of the day, he began to feel as if he was getting sick,
