Mitosis The process by which a eukaryotic cell separates the chromosomes in its cell nucleus, into two identical sets in two daughter nuclei. Allows an organism to maintain its tissues, many of which require frequent replacement. Mitotic cell divisions allow the body to repair itself, or sometimes even regenerate parts following injury.
