Classical India Notes Vedas is a collection of hymns songs prays and rituals, made by the Aryans All 3 believed in reincarnation and wanted to escape it Hinduism o Main religion on India o Strived for a “World Spirit” o Polytheistic o Tried to explain why people are born into a certain class o Attracted political support o Supported education system o Lived by many Aryan values o Idea of serving society without regard for person reward o Many ideas of self improvement o Branch off Buddhism o Only through detachment of the world could someone could escape the cycle of reincarnation o Needed a balance of: Artha- pursuit of economic well being and honest prosperity Darma- obedience to religious and moral law Kama- the enjoyment of social, physical and sexual pleasure Balance of all these lead to moksha- salvation of the soul Buddhism o Did not go with the caste system Caste system was from the Aryans brought o Focused more on the separation from society and for self enlightenment
