Examination #3
(50 minutes - 100 Points)
Special note – at least one student has fallen ill and will be taking this exam later this week. Please use the
utmost care and discretion when discussing the exam in public places this week so that information about the
exam’s content is not provided in advance to student(s) who have not yet taken the exam.
Please check that your exam has a different set of problems on every page (
five
pages).
Please write your name clearly at the top of each page. If you attach extra pages, write your name on these
too and staple
them to the exam (stapler is located at front of room).
Please read the following
ground rules
. All work must be performed by each student working independently.
This exam is closed book, closed homework, and closed notes. Calculators, periodic tables, and electronic
devices of all sorts including headphones are not permitted. You may use a plastic model kit (plastic models
are also available in the front of the classroom and in the lobby outside). You may ask the instructor questions
during the exam to confirm that problems have been correctly and clearly stated (I will be in the lobby outside
the classroom for most of the exam). You may also ask for hints, but these will be accompanied by modest
point deductions from any you earn
(i.e., you won’t lose points by receiving a hint; you just can’t earn as many
points as you might have otherwise).
