Unformatted text preview: PHI 105 Week 1 Day 3 Assignment CheckPoint: Argument and Logic In the excerpt on free will versus determination the author is using argument vs. logic. The two beliefs the author states are; 1) The behavior of atoms is governed entirely by physical law and (2) Humans have free will. (Moore and Bruder, 2008) It is hard for me to believe that the voluntary moving of my arm is anything but free will. It is my choice to move my legs not a predetermined motion governed by physical law. I choose to get up each morning and walk down the drive to get the paper but Sunday I do not receive the paper, thus I do not walk down to get it, so the atoms in my body are not going make me get up and walk Sunday morning. Therefore this is a weakness in the theory that the behavior of atoms is governed entirely by physical law. However looking at the argument side of this and looking at somebody who is trying to quit a certain habit.
