Unformatted text preview: Eastern Philosophers 1 Eastern Philosophers Comparison Troy Stutsman Axia College of University of Phoenix Eastern Philosophers 2 A quote which I believe best represents Siddhartha Gautama, or more commonly known as “Buddha”, is “To seek moderation and avoid the extremes of self-indulgence and self- mortification.” (Haselhurst and Howie, 2009) This quote best represents Buddha because he grew up in a wealthy family which allowed him to be ignorant to the suffering of the outside world. When he became an adult, he was exposed to this suffering and he found it very disturbing. So much so, that he made the choice to leave everything he had ever known behind. This could not have been an easy choice to make as he left behind his wife and son, his home, his wealth, everything to go off and live a life of poverty in the woods. He made this choice in the hope that he could find solutions to the sufferings he had become aware of in the world.
