Syllabus Fall 2011 Molecular Biology TTh 11:00am-12:30pm ETC 2.136 , Unique No. 49530-49545 Overview: Welcome to Molecular Biology! The purpose of this course is to explore the principles of molecular biology. Throughout the semester, we’ll learn about the molecular mechanisms of replica- tion, transcription, and translation focusing on the regulation of key processes, experiments, and techniques. We will also study some recent publications in molecular biology so that you may gain an appreciation of current areas of research and hone your scientiFc paper reading skills. This course will cover the topics of DNA replication and recombination, transcription, RNA processing, transla- tion, epigenetics, genetic engineering, and retroviruses. Course prerequisites: BIO 325 (Genetics) with a grade of at least a C. Those who have taken Organic Chemistry and Cell Biology or Biochemistry will be particularly well-prepared for this course.
