Alice ‘Skeeter’ Gaspers says legging out a triple is no reason to let your nose get shiny - Betty Grable has nothing on these gals. Helen Haley has not only been a member of several championship amateur teams, she is also an accomplished coffee maker (A league of their own-announcer)”, exclaimed an announcer at the beginning of the movie A League of Their Own as he describes the new roster of girls included in the new All American Women’s Baseball League. In the heat of WWII, men throughout the country, including athletes were headed overseas to serve in the war. Back home the country missed its most proud pastime: baseball. Because of this, the AAWBL was formed to curve America’s hunger for baseball while the men were away at war. Despite much debate and speculation, the league was formed in 1943 and was far from
