N ational A ssociation for the A dvancement of C olored P eople 4805 Mt. Hope Drive Baltimore, MD 21215 (Midwest Region III) Dr. Jerome L. Reide Attorney Barbara Bolling Field Organizer, Region III President, Indiana State Conference We are happy to announce that the 2011 Annual Midwest Region III NAACP Civil Rights Advocacy Training Institute (CRATI) will be held April 14-16, 2011 in Hammond, IN. The theme for this year’s conference is Affirming America’s Promise: Issue Campaign Organizing. The Region III CRATI reaches out to empower our Civil Rights leaders with new information and skills to aid in our fight for justice and equality. We are proud of the Indiana State Conference for their hard work and look forward to working with them as they host this year’s Civil Rights Advocacy Training Institute. One of the highlights of the conference is a report on the Stop the Funerals ,” campaign. This campaign, designed to address the high youth homicide rate in the Midwest, is again expected to attract the faith based community and community and political leaders from throughout the Midwest. In 2011 NAACP leaders, from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin will train to: develop new approaches to direct action campaigns, mobilize for the next steps in the census-reapportionment-redistricting process, empower voters with: registration, education and get-out-the-vote campaigns Branches, Youth Councils and College Chapters (especially Officers and Standing Committee Chairs) are encouraged to send a representative. We want each Unit to send participants that will train and lead others. Since there are no elections or resolutions, the size of your delegation is not as important as the commitment of participants to train lead and take the message back to our members at the grassroots. All units are encouraged to participate in the Annual Membership Laydown. Remember, Membership Is Still a Priority ! We will award Units who have raised the most members and monies from January 1, 2010 to April 16, 2011. Membership Laydown will open on Saturday, April 16, 2011 from 1:00PM until 3:00PM. Please remember to have all f orms completed and tallied. If you are submitting copies of membership previously sent to the National Office you must have copies of checks and membership forms.
